- Congratulations to more students who have been selected in zone sporting teams.
Welcome to the Week 8 edition of the newsletter. For the past week, our students in Year 3 and Year 5 have been busily completing their NAPLAN assessments. The assessments have now been completed, except for a few students who still need to make up tests that they missed through absence. Results will come through later in the year, typically around late July/early August. For now, staff and students will happily resume the day-to-day business of teaching and learning to ensure that our students continue to improve each and every day. In the meantime, our Kindergarten students have been reading “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”… and today they went hunting for a Principal. It was a lot of fun for me personally as it’s not every day I get to spend my working day playing hide and seek! With that being said, parents of our Kindergarten students may hear stories that they found me napping in the play equipment near Port Place. If you do hear such stories, I want to assure you, that this isn’t a regular occurrence so please don’t be alarmed!
It seems like a lifetime ago now, but I promised to share the results of the Zone Swimming Carnival and they’ve now come through. As discussed in the last newsletter, our students all performed admirably on the day. Perhaps my proudest moment was the way that they supported their classmates all throughout the day. I was at the opposite end of the pool to where KLPS was sitting, and even from that distance their cheers of encouragement for other team members were exceptional. I have no doubt that our swimmers each swam just that little bit faster knowing the support that they had behind them and some of the results below reflect that amazing team effort.
While all of our representatives were stars in their own right, the following students stood out with particularly exceptional results.
Lachlan K- 2nd boys Junior 200 IM, 2nd 10 years 50m freestyle, 2nd 50m breaststroke, 2nd 50m backstroke, 2nd opens 100m freestyle, 2nd 50m butterfly
Lizzy R- 2nd girls Senior 200 IM, 1st 12 years 50m freestyle, 1st 50m breaststroke, 1st 50m backstroke, 2nd opens 100m freestyle, 1st 50m butterfly
Braxton R- 2nd boys Senior IM, 2nd 12 years 50m freestyle, 1st 50m breaststroke, 2nd 50m backstroke, 4th opens 100m freestyle, 2nd 50m butterfly
Caiden E- 1st boys 8 years 50m freestyle
Oliver H- 4th boys 9 years 50m freestyle, 5th junior backstroke (highest placed 9 year old)
Maddox E- 4th boys 10 years 50m freestyle
Maia V- 3rd girls 12 years 50m freestyle, 2nd 50m breaststroke
Max P- 4th boys 12 years 50m freestyle
Alexander H- 3rd boys 11 years 50m breaststroke
Ben G- 3rd boys 12 years 50m breaststroke
As you can imagine from these results, some individuals performed incredibly well in the age championships. Lachlan K finished 2nd in the junior boys, while Oliver H finished in 6th and was the highest ranked 9 year old boy in the field. Lizzy R’s dominance in the 12 year old girls events saw her win the age championship, with Maia V finishing in 2nd. Braxton R’s consistent performances across all events saw him win the 12 years boys age championship.
In addition to these outstanding individual results, all four of our relay teams will now be going through to represent the zone at the regional carnival after our junior (Maddox E, Jamie T, Oliver H and Lachlan K) and senior boys (Braxton R, Ben G, Max P and Oliver P) each won their events, while our senior girls (Charleigh D, Zelda K, Maia V and Lizzy R) finished in 2nd and junior girls (Eilidh G, Ava T, Sydney J and Scarlet E) finished in 3rd.
With so many outstanding results, it will not surprise you to hear that Kings Langley PS was crowned the Zone swimming champion once again! This result is only made possible through each swimmers outstanding efforts in their respective event. Points are awarded for anyone finishing in the top 10 of their event, and as such every team member contributed to our schools success. Congratulations to the entire team and good luck to our 17 regional representatives who will participate in the Sydney West Swimming championships next Thursday.
Our superfish were Holly B, Charleigh D, Maddox E, Caiden E, Scarlett E, Ben G, Eilidh G, Alexander H, Oliver H, Alli H, Sean H, Stella H, Lily H, Sydney J, Zelda K, Lachlan K, Japleen M, Patrick M, Isla M, Flynn M, Valerie M, Mason P, Max P, Oliver P, Lizzy R, Braxton R, Ava T, Jamie T, Maia V and Maddison W.
It isn’t just in the pool where we’ve had success. More of the zone teams have now been announced and we have even more children representing the zone across the various sports. Congratulations to Logan W for making the softball team, Raiviu D for making the touch football team and Jackson C and Neo G who made the final boys football team. Congratulations boys!
Last Monday we had our first P&C meeting of the year and it was wonderful to see some new faces in amongst the group. It was wonderful to be able to hear about all the amazing activities our P&C have organised for our students, as well as to share with parents information relating to staffing, school finance, school costs for parents, special religious education developments and updates in the community hub space. This Friday I have a meeting with the contractors who will be completing the installation of our new covered walkway to the community hub and 4WD/4L. This has been a big project for our P&C and one that has been in the pipeline for some time now. It is exciting to see it edging closer to becoming a reality.
As you may know, tomorrow is national Harmony Day- a day to recognise the country’s diverse cultures as well Indigenous Australians. It is a day to promote respect, inclusion and social cohesion. While we will not be organising activities for Harmony Day this year, as we instead put our focus into our Multicultural Gala Day fundraiser on July 3rd, students are still more than welcome to add a bit of orange to their attire on Friday to acknowledge the day if they wish. The core messages of Harmony Day are firmly embedded in our school ethos and values.
Next Tuesday is school photo day. All students are expected to be in full school uniform, including students who would typically wear sports uniform for their tennis lessons. If you have any questions about photo day, please contact the office.
This week I had the pleasure of meeting with the President and Vice-president of our Student Representative Council. Rory S and Piper M came and spoke with me about the initiatives that our SRC have lined up to support Stewart House. In addition to our traditional cake stalls, the first of which is next Wednesday 26th, the students have proposed a mufti day, a book swap day and an opposite day! I thought that they were all wonderful ideas and we are now going to work with the SRC to get them organised over the coming terms.
Speaking of school events, we are in the process of organising our annual Muffins with Mum breakfast for Thursday 8th May. We always have a wonderful turn out for this event and we hope that all our magnificent mums can join us for the morning. While more information will be coming out shortly, I thought you may like to put it in your diaries ahead of time. Similarly, our K-2 parents are all invited to attend our Easter Hat Parade on 9th April. Again, more information on this event will be shared separately.
Our Year 6 parents are currently in the midst of completing their Expressions of Interest for a placement at a high school next year. This is a reminder that the EOIs need to be completed by Friday 28th March. For parents considering applying for a placement at a sports high school, the below information has been shared to help you with this application process as it runs separately to the EOI process. Following that is information relating to placement at Newtown Performing Arts. Similarly, the performing arts streams operate independently of the EOI process.
Congratulations to the following students on earning their PBL Award. Well done!
